The lifestyle of the Lake Norman-Cornelius region is enviable. The lake itself, community recreation facilities and nearby Jetton Park provide residents everything they need to relax and unwind. Lake Norman’s shoreline is over 520 miles in length, 11 of which are part of The Peninsula community. The lake is used by locals for sailing, boating, swimming or just exploring.
Recreation facilities are provided to Peninsula residents through The Club. Anchored by an enormous clubhouse on the ninth green, The Club offers fine dining and a range of athletic facilities and social activities to its members. Community and interest groups are popular, and special events are scheduled year-round. The Peninsula Yacht Club is a private establishment that provides its members access to a marina, swimming pool and restaurant/clubhouse. Members enjoy relaxing and socializing in the waterfront bar or accessing the lake from one of the marina’s 400 boat slips. Families will also appreciate the children’s playground. Yet another local retreat is Jetton Park, a site operated by Mecklenburg County. The park consists of over 100 scenic acres along Lake Norman. A two-mile bike path is used by walkers, joggers and bicyclists, while children enjoy the Jetton playground. A beach and picturesque gazebos are ideal for a relaxing outdoor picnic. The county has plans to expand the park in the future to include a restaurant and a dock. The lakeside climate of The Peninsula and neighboring communities is cool and mild. Annual rainfall averages about 45 inches; precipitation is relatively even throughout the year, at about four inches per month. Temperatures may reach the low 90s in July and August, but drop down to the high 40s in January. |
